In Support of Holding the 2020 Olympics in Hiroshima

Hiroshima City is considering bidding on hosting the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. It is significant that the Olympics, a festival of “sports” and “peace” will be held in Hiroshima City, a city that promotes lasting peace for the whole world.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki have been in the forefront of transmitting a message of peace to the world ever since it began the process of starting anew following the loss of thousands of lives in the 1945 atomic bombing of the city.

Japan joins other countries in facing such crises as environmental degradation and food and water shortages due to explosive population growth. To resolve these and other pressing issues, it is vital that each person in every country decide which action to take in order to ensure the future of humankind.

I believe that lighting the Olympic Flame in Hiroshima, a city which has beautifully recovered from the devastation of a nuclear bomb, will help to ignite a light in the hearts of people and lead to a spirit of cooperation that spreads throughout the world.
